Content

The theme of the course is weighting adjustment for survey nonresponse, with extensions also to the problem of frame imperfections. Weights are derived by calibration on auxiliary information, typically available in a statistical agency from one or more administrative registers. “Traditional estimators” are obtained as special cases of the much more general perspective that the calibration approach can offer. The theoretical motivation of the approach and the methods is explained. Empirical illustrations are given, some in the form of applications to real survey data, some in the form of results from simulation experiments.  It is assumed that participants have a certain familiarity with design-based reasoning in estimation for sample surveys, including regression estimation.
